Crested Butte Community Information
|
Crested Butte was founded as a mining town in the 1870’s. What started with Gold and Silver turned to Coal and ranching. When the Coal Mines closed in the 1950’s the town was re-invented as a resort town, and Crested Butte as we know it today was born. In 1962 the Ski Mountain opened.
Since the inception of the Ski Mountain, town has taken on a different feel, that of a “lifestyle community” where guests and locals alike come to take advantage of all that the Crested Butte area has to offer. From winter’s Snowboarding, Alpine and Telemark Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Snowshoeing, to summer’s Mountain Biking, Fly Fishing, Rafting, Kayaking, Hiking, Camping and Wildflower scouting (Crested Butte is the Wildflower Capital of Colorado), this area offers something for everyone. If you decide you’re ready for something indoors, you can shop the 50+ shops and boutiques & sample some of the fabulous restaurants (Crested Butte is said to have more fine restaurants per capita than any other town in the country!!) Whatever you choose, you’re sure to have an amazing experience. In early 2004 the Ski Mountain sold to a family with an excellent track record in ski towns. The new owners, The Muellers, seem to have the magic touch. Since the sale of the resort, Crested Butte has experienced a renaissance and has now turned the corner into a new era. Return to top |
